EACHA launches social enterprise cafe
An East Ayrshire homelessness and addiction support charity has recently opened its very own social enterprise café in John Dickie Street.
East Ayrshire Churches Homelessness Action (EACHA) celebrated the official opening of the new venture on Monday 13 April, which offers delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner options in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Led by café manager Michael and made possible by a team of dedicated staff, the café offers fresh toasties, paninis, soups, cakes, coffee and much more, with all profits going towards people in East Ayrshire affected by homelessness, mental health challenges and addiction.
Lauren Dutthorn at EACHA told us more:
“Our social enterprise café runs Monday to Friday, 12–2pm, at The Hub on John Dickie Street, and every purchase made here directly supports our work across East Ayrshire.
“By choosing to eat and drink with us, you’re helping provide vital support for individuals affected by homelessness and addiction, while also creating opportunities for connection, recovery, and community wellbeing.
“After visiting the old Hub while experiencing addiction challenges, our café manager Michael was signposted to recovery networks, where he began volunteering. From there, he progressed into employment and now leads our café.
“His story reflects what’s possible when people are given the right support and opportunities. We aim to give this back by offering training and volunteer opportunities to our clients that will progress them to employment in hospitality.
“Whether you’re popping in for a coffee, sharing a meal, or supporting the cause, EACHA Café is a place where every visit makes a difference.”
The EACHA Café is based at 9-19 John Dickie Street, Kilmarnock and is open every weekday from 12pm to 2pm.
The café also runs ‘Each Bite Matters’ every Wednesday evening, where customers can enjoy a three-course meal for £4 and children eat free.
