Kilmarnock charity hub leader nominated for national award
A participant turned leader for the Killie Community Charity has been nominated for an award in recognition of his “selflessness and impact”.
Nominated in the Employee of the Year category, Scott Montgomery from Onthank is one of 35 individuals shortlisted across the country in this year’s Scottish Charity Awards.
Run annually by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), these awards celebrate the best of Scotland’s voluntary sector and the individuals and groups who make a real and lasting difference to the lives of others.
After losing his son, Scott found purpose through The Killie Community and now leads programmes empowering 3,000 people each year. His lived experience allows him to connect with individuals facing bereavement, recovery, and physical and mental health challenges, helping them take their first steps toward progress.
Scott’s journey from participant to Hub Operations Lead is an amazing example of how compassion and selflessness can transform one life into a catalyst for changing many more.
Jordan Allison, Head of The Kille Community, spoke about Scott’s “extraordinary” journey with the charity, which first welcomed him as a participant:
“The nomination follows an incredible year for Scott, including helping expand programmes tackling loneliness, recovery and disability inclusion, while also raising over £17,000 for the charity. His story is an extraordinary one.”
Anna Fowlie, Chief Executive at SCVO, said:
“Across Scotland and beyond, voluntary organisations are making an extraordinary difference, and the breadth and depth of their impact never fails to inspire. Our 2026 finalists epitomise this.
“Best of luck to all of our finalists. I look forward to celebrating with them in June as we highlight the phenomenal work each and every one of them contributes to.”
A judging panel will determine the winners under nine distinct categories following a rigorous shortlisting process.
Winners will be announced on Thursday 11 June in a celebratory awards ceremony hosted by broadcaster Sally Magnusson at the Raddison Blu in Glasgow.
