Community Care Officer praised for going “the extra mile”
We recently received some fantastic feedback from the son of a service user for a member of Care At Home staff, whom he describes as “kind, caring and enormously helpful”.
Community Care Officer, Donna, supported the service user, an elderly gentleman who lived alone, by ensuring he had all correct medication and items and was prepared for his flight to London.
Due to an issue with air traffic control, the gentleman’s flight was cancelled, after which Donna visited him in his home to make sure he was okay – a gesture which “made an enormous difference”.
The gentleman’s son got in touch to express his gratitude for Donna’s support:
“Donna knew that Dad was due to make his way down to London by plane this week. I spoke to her on the phone while she was with him earlier this week, and she was instrumental in helping him get organised for the journey, making sure he had packed what he needed and, importantly, that he had the correct medication with him. She was kind, caring and enormously helpful on the phone, and genuinely went the extra mile.
“Donna has somehow managed to get the measure of Dad beautifully. He clearly responds to her, and she makes his day when she comes in. What she has done over the past few days may seem like a series of relatively small gestures to her, but to us they are anything but small.
“When you live hundreds of miles away from somebody you care for, knowing that there is someone there who is actually thinking about them makes an enormous difference.”
