Barbering event gives students experience
A recent barbering event provided free haircuts and beard trims to people with additional support needs, as well as valuable experience to students from Ayrshire College.
In partnership with the college’s Kilmarnock campus, supported living charity, Quarriers, hosted an event at the end of last year in their Titchfield Street premises.
Maria Brown, Quarriers Kilmarnock Depute Manager, told us more:
“Our Team Leader’s husband is currently studying barbering at Ayrshire College, so this was an ideal opportunity to get some experience for himself and a few fellow students while treating those we support to a free haircut. There were three students from the college and around eight people we support getting their hair, beards and different things done.
The event gave him and the other students some insight into serving clients with different challenges, such as people who are non-verbal and have learning difficulties and/or communication barriers.”
Quarriers and Ayrshire College are hoping to repeat the event before the end of the student year.
Well done to all students for providing a trim and tidy service!
Quarriers offers support to adults with learning disabilities and their families.
