Kay Park event focuses on opportunities for play
The annual Kay Park Play Day event was another huge success this year, bringing together children and young people from across the community to participate in a range of outdoor activities.
This year’s theme, ‘Play here, there and everywhere’, highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for children to play wherever they are, whether in their own living room, the school playground, their local park or neighbourhood area.
The free event, which took place on Wednesday 5 August in Kilmarnock’s Kay Park, featured everything from trampolining, giant board games and messy play to arts and crafts, colouring, puzzles and so much more. There was also a wide range of information stalls from local groups and organisations.
Ling Liao, Participation and Engagement Graduate Intern, took the lead on the Health and Social Care Partnership’s stall, providing children with an activity linking to this year’s Play Day theme:
“The children were asked about what, where and why they like to play and to write their answers down on paper love hearts. These were then placed on a mini tree on the table.
“After this they were asked to pick a coloured stick out of a mystery box to see if they had won a prize. There were ten great prizes to be won on the day.
“Apples were kindly donated by Tesco, which were available for everyone to help themselves and to promote healthy eating.
“It was wonderful to meet so many children and young people and see them come out to play with one another and join in all the activities the different stalls had on.
“It was great to engage with the children and chat to them about what they like to play and why. I heard so many different themes, from playing with friends and family to taking part in activities and hobbies. It was good to hear what they like and why it is important to them.”
“It was also a good opportunity to promote some of the services that the Health and Social Care Partnership can support with, such as promoting the Care Opinion feedback platform for parents and carers to share their experiences of any services they have accessed.
“An overall great event and day!”
