Care at Home staff praised for “incredible” support

04.09.2026

Our ‘Home First’ Care at Home service recently received a wonderful letter from the family member of a late service user, which praised care staff for their “incredible” support.

The family member conveyed their “deep gratitude and thanks” for the team of carers who were assigned to the end-of-life care of the service user, an elderly gentleman living in East Ayrshire.

“Mr S was an East Ayrshire man, born and bred, and a retired miner. With your team’s deep compassion, support and kindness, he was give the dignified passing he wanted, in the comfort of his own home of some 58 years and surrounded by the lifetime of personal treasures he and his wife had acquired.

“Right up to the day of his death, he was able to sit in his conservatory and listen to the birds in his beloved garden, and was peaceful, reflective and supported.

“The team were incredible. Special thanks go to Jane, Audrey and Chantelle, who were instrumental in Mr S’s care in the months prior to his passing, organising resources and safety measures to ensure his comfort.

“In addition to the Hospital at Home Team and ambulance services (which I believe were from Cumnock) and physio teams, everyone was just so wonderful.

“On the weekend of S’s passing Jane was an absolute godsend in supporting me. She chatted to his daughter and connected the community team and doctor for his next steps beyond coming off his feet.

“These processes were not something I had knowledge in and without that support the weekend would have been so much more challenging for S and I.

“His daughter made it through and was the last face he saw. Everyone was incredible.

“S seldom asked for assistance and your team had the emotional intelligence to spare his difficulties in asking for help and pre-empt his needs, to which he was always gracious and accepted with as much humour as possible.

“I consider having lived within all three zones of Ayrshire, that the East Ayrshire team have a great framework for success with their approach to the care and dignity of our elderly community.

It could not have been better. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all.”
